What kind of sound files can I submit?

Send us a standard midi file.

How long can it be?

The file should be from 5 to 32 seconds in playing time.

How many voices should it have?

Up to eight, but keep in mind that your file will become one of many voices in the Sound Pool.

How will my file be used in the Sound Pool?

The Sound Pool consists of up to eight voices playing at any one time. These voices are chosen and mixed by composer William Duckworth. When your midi file arrives it will be categorized and mapped to the instruments of The Cathedral Band.

Will I be notified when my sound file is used?

We'll send you an e-mail and add the name you indicate on the submission form to the Sound Pool credit page.

Will my file appear in the pool more than once?

Yes, it's possible. The sounds in the pool sometimes get there by chance.

How do I submit files?

To submit sound files to The Pool, go to the File Upload Page. There you will find a form with which you can attach files and send them directly to our server using your browser. This process, though, will not work for every platform, and so we will also be accepting files via email as attachments.

Thanks to Nina Amenta and Mark Phillips who graciously let us build on their code to develop the visual portion of the Sound Pool. Their work can be found at the Geometry Center.
